Princeton returns 18 of 32 letterwinners from last season, while a hole left in the roster by the departure of nine seniors. Of those seniors were All-America honorees Holly McGarvie, Kristin Schwab, Marie McKenna and Christine Casaceli. The Tigers do return All-America goalie Erin Tochihara and All-America player Lizzy Drumm and bring in six freshmen. Drumm is the team's top returning scorer who notched 38 goals and nine assists in 2009. She will also most likely take a larger role in taking draw controls this season with the departure of McGarvie. Kristin Morrison started all but one game last season and finished with 27 goals and five helpers. In addition, sophomore Cassie Pyle will add offensive depth after a 19-point season as a freshman. Defensively sophomore Erin Tochihara returns to the cage. Tochihara posted a 14-4 record last season and made 152 saves and allowed 135 goals for an 8.41 goals against average and a .530 save percentage. In front of her will be sophomore Lindsey deButts who earned a starting role last season. The squad went 14-4 last season and made it to the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Tournament where it lost to five-time defending national champion Northwestern.
Princeton leads the all-time series with Johns Hopkins, 4-1. The two teams only began playing each other in 2005 and since that time Princeton has opened each season with the Blue Jays. Last year the Tigers recorded a 13-9 win in the opening game, which marked the earliest game in program history, until today's game.
Johns Hopkins is 1-1 on the season after opening with a 14-7 win over George Mason before falling to Georgetown, 15-9 this past Wednesday. Today's game will mark Hopkins home opener. Sophomore Colleen McCaffrey leads the squad in scoring with six goals including the game winner over George Mason and has an assist. She and senior Angela Hughes lead the team in ground balls with five, and McCaffrey is also the team leader in draw controls with six. Hughes has caused a team-best five turnovers and has scored four goals and an assist for five points. Senior Paige Ibello also has five points on five goals. Freshman Cosette Larash has been in the net for all 120 minutes and has made 17 saves and allowed 22 goals for a 11.00 goals against average and a .436 save percentage. Last year, the Blue Jays went 5-12 and finished fifth in the American Lacrosse Conference last season.
