Women's Swim/Dive Completes Perfect Season With Win Over Columbia

Meredith Monroe and Megan Waters both won two individual events apiece to lead the Princeton women's swimming and diving team to a 141-94 victory over Columbia Friday afternoon at DeNunzio Pool. The win caps a perfect regular season for the Tigers and gives Princeton a perfect send-off to its Class of 2010, which competed for the final time at DeNunzio Pool.
Princeton opened the meet by winning the 200 medley relay in 1:45.50. The quartet of Meredith Monroe, Sarah Furgatch, Alicia Aemisegger and Courtney Kilkuts topped Columbia by more than two seconds, while Princeton's B team of Alexa Powers, Kerry Gruendel, Leslie Bargmann and Jillian Altenburger placed third in 1:51.65.
The first individual event of the meet went to Furgatch, who claimed the 400 IM in 4:26.23. Princeton followed with a 1-2-3 finish in the 200 free; Monroe won the event in 1:52.78, while senior co-captain Kilkuts took second in 1:52.90. Aislinn Smalling finished third in 1:54.25.
Aemisegger, the other co-captain and one of six seniors honored during Senior Day, won the 200 IM in 1:58.37; that time topped the rest of the field by more than nine seconds. Junior Megan Waters, the reigning Ivy League champion in the 50 free, won that event in 23.46, while Emily Trautner placed second in 24.67.
Kilkuts won the 100 fly in 58.12, while freshman Kathy Qu placed second in 58.58. Ming Ong won the 100 free in 52.47, while Waters led another 1-2-3 Tiger finish in the 100 back. Waters won in 57.57, while Julie Kochman took second in 1:00.81 and Powers took third in 1:01.10.
Monroe, the reigning GoPrincetonTigers.com Athlete of the Week, won the 500 free in 5:01.00, while Lauren Benjamin placed second in 5:03.63. Fellow Tiger Lauren Shanley placed third in 5:03.88.
Sophomore Hannah Cody won the 100 breast in 1:08.50, and Princeton finished with a win in the 200 free relay.
Princeton had just as much success on the diving board as it had in the pool. In the three-meter competition, freshman Bryna Tsai won the event with 279.08 points, while Courtney Fieldman placed second with 248.25 points. Carolyn Littlefield won the one-meter competition with 267.22 points, while Christina Kirkwood placed second with 251.17 points.
Princeton is now off for three weeks before heading to Cambridge to compete in the three-day Ivy League Championship meet.
