Women's Lacrosse Picked 9th/10th in Preseason Polls

PRINCETON, N.J. (2/9/10) - The Princeton women's lacrosse team has been picked ninth in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Preason Poll, it was announced on Monday, Feb. 8.
The five-time reigning national champion Northwestern was the unanimous first-place selection. Semifinalists Maryland and Penn follow at 2-3, with national runner-up North Carolina picked fourth. Just ahead of Princeton is Duke, Syracuse, Georgetown and Notre Dame.
The Tigers earned 240 votes in the preseason poll, just one vote ahead of Virginia, picked 10th.

Princeton was selected 10th in the Lacrosse Magazine Preseason Poll released in its January issue. The rankings, compiled by Lacrosse Magazine staff after consultations with coaches, predict Northwestern to win its sixth straight championship. Like IWLCA, the same teams make up the top 10, however in a different order. The Cavaliers grabbed the No. 8 slot pushing the Tigers to No. 10.

Princeton finished the 2009 season with a 14-4 overall record and went 6-1 in the Ivy League with its lone loss to Penn. The Tigers reached the NCAA Tournament for the 12th consecutive season, where they knocked off Georgetown 15-9 in the first round before losing to Northwestern on its home turf 16-9.
The Tigers open the 2010 season at Johns Hopkins on Feb. 27 and will play Rutgers in the home opener at Princeton Stadium on Wednesday, March 3 at 7 p.m.
