Ivy Champion Women's Swimming/Diving Places Six On 2010 All-Ivy Squad
March 01, 2010 | Women's Swimming and Diving
Though its title-winning effort was certainly a team performance, six members of the 2010 Ivy League champion Princeton women's swimming and diving team have earned All-Ivy distinction, it was announced Monday by the Ivy League.
Each of the six — seniors Alicia Aemisegger and Courtney Kilkuts, junior Megan Waters and sophomores Jillian Altenburger, Meredith Monroe and Aislinn Smalling — claimed at least one first-team All-ivy honors. Of the six, four earned at least four All-Ivy honors overall, led by Aemisegger's seven. Aemisegger, Kilkuts, Monroe and Waters each earned at least two second-team All-Ivy honors as well.
As she has since she first stepped on the Princeton campus, co-captain Aemisegger led the way during another championship weekend. The Career High Point Scorer honoree, she completed a career sweep in individual events (12 for 12) by winning the 500 free, the 400 IM and the 1650 free. In each of those three individual events, she has at least a Top 6 time in all of the NCAA; she has the fourth-ranked time in both the 500 and 1650. Aemisegger also earned first-team honors in the 800 free and 400 medley relays, while earned second-team honors in the 400 free and 200 medley relays.
Fellow co-captain Kilkuts also completed a career sweep when she won her fourth straight 200 IM Thursday evening. Kilkuts was part of both the winning 400 medley relay team and the runner-up 200 medley relay. She added a second-team honor in the 400 free relay.
Both Waters and Monroe earned five All-Ivy honors apiece. Waters won the 100 free and placed second in the 50 free, and she was part of the winning 400 medley relay team. Monore won her first career individual title by claiming the 200 back final Saturday, and she added first-team honors in both the 800 free and 400 medley relays. Both Waters and Monroe were both on the second-team 400 free and 200 medley relays.
Altenburger used a pair of 200 free swims Friday night to earn two first-team All-Ivy honors. Her first was in the individual championship, which she won in a tight finish with Harvard's Kate Mills. Altenburger came back to the pool at the end of the night and led off the winning 800 free relay. Joining her on the winning 800 relay was Smalling, who earned a first-team All-Ivy honor for the first time in her career.
