South Florida Tops Men's Tennis, 5-2
March 14, 2010 | Men's Tennis
TAMPA, Fla. -- Princeton won the doubles point, but the Tiger men's tennis team was able to follow with just one singles victory in a 5-2 loss to South Florida Sunday.
The match was Princeton's first outdoor contest of the 2010 spring season.
Princeton's (3-7) Michael Lin and Matt Spindler put the Tigers ahead in doubles play after a win at second, but South Florida tied it with an 8-5 win over Coleman Crutchfield and Alex Faust at third. The top Tiger doubles team of Yohei Shoji and Matt Siow pulled out a 9-7 win at first to clinch the point.
In singles play, Siow's match at third was the first to finish, tying the score at 1-1 after a 6-3, 6-1 defeat. The Bulls (4-6) won four more singles matches, including nullifying Ryan Kim's first-set win at fifth singles to take that match in three, and holding on for a slim 7-5, 7-6 win at first singles over Matija Pecotic, who was healthy enough to return to the lineup.
Princeton's singles point came from Charlie Brosens, who won on a third-set retirement by the Bulls' Jamal Adderley after splitting the first two.
The Tigers will head halfway across the Sunshine State to meet No. 61 Central Florida for a 2 p.m. match Monday.
