Captain's Corner: Alicia Aemisegger
March 17, 2010 | Women's Swimming and Diving
Senior Alicia Aemisegger, sophomore Meredith Monroe and freshman Bryna Tsai have made their way to Purdue for the 2010 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships after leading Princeton to its ninth Ivy League championship in 11 years. For Aemisegger, the GoPrincetonTigers.com Athlete of the Decade, it will be her final competitive swim meet and a chance to punctuate an already-brilliant career with Princeton's first NCAA championship.
You can hear from Aemisegger and veteran head coach Susan Teeter by clicking on the video link above. Check back with GoPrincetonTigers.com next week for a career retrospective on Aemisegger, who already owns eight individual Princeton records, 10 All-America honors and 12 Ivy League individual championships.
Aemisegger, who has placed as high as second at the NCAA Championships (2007, 400 IM), will compete in the 500 free Thursday, the 400 IM Friday and the 1650 Saturday. In each of the three events, she owns a top-six time nationally; in both the 500 and the 1650, she ranks fourth. Aemisegger has reached seven NCAA championship finals throughout her career and placed as high as third last year (1650).
Monroe, who reached the NCAA Championships in 2008, will be off Thursday, but will compete in both the 100 and 200 back over the weekend. Monroe was the Ivy League champion in the 200 back and the lead leg in both of Princeton's winning Ivy League medley relays.
Tsai qualified for the platform diving competition, which will take place Saturday.
