Men's Volleyball Falls To #6 Penn State
March 27, 2010 | Men's Volleyball
The Princeton men's volleyball team saw its three-match win streak come to an end Friday night in a three-set loss at the sixth-ranked Penn State Nittany Lions. The game scores were far closer than the first match, held weeks earlier at Dillon Gym.
Princeton fell to 3-3 in the EIVA Tait Division with the 30-20, 30-24, 30-24 loss, while Penn State improved to 9-0 and all but clinched the top seed for the league postseason. The positive for Princeton is that two of its three losses are at the hands of Penn State, a team it wouldn't face again until a potential postseason matchup.
Despite the loss, Princeton remains in second place in the division. The Tigers have a huge match Saturday afternoon when they head to Saint Francis for a 4 p.m. match. Princeton began its three-match Tait win streak with a 3-2 victory over the Red Flash.
Freshman Pat Schwagler led Princeton with 13 kills, while junior Vincent Tuminelli had 10 kills and a team-best eight digs. Sophomore setter Scott Liljestrom recorded 32 assists, while middles Jeff McCown and Michael Dye combined for 13 kills and six blocks.
