Last Match Tips Stony Brook's Way in 4-3 Men's Tennis Defeat
March 04, 2010 | Men's Tennis
PRINCETON -- After splitting two sets that ended in tiebreakers, Princeton's Coleman Crutchfield tried to fight through a third set Wednesday night against Stony Brook that ultimately didn't go the Tigers' way.
Despite getting swept in the doubles point and dropping the top two singles matches, Stony Brook swept the third through sixth singles slots to win a 4-3 match on Jadwin Gym's indoor courts. The loss drops Princeton to 2-5, three matches into a five-match homestand with two more coming this weekend against Binghamton Saturday at 2 p.m. and Radford Sunday at 11 a.m.
Crutchfield had a tiebreaker go his way early, as he and Alex Faust teamed to win at third doubles, 8-7. Michael Lin, Matt Spindler, Yohei Shoji and Matt Siow also contributed to the doubles sweep. Siow was the only Tiger who won on both the singles and doubles courts, taking his match at second singles while Charlie Brosens won the top spot.
The match stood at 3-3 before Crutchfield's match tipped toward Stony Brook. Of the nine sets at third through sixth singles, five went to a tiebreaker and four of those went to the Seawolves.
