Temple Uses a Six-Goal Run to Get Past Princeton in Women's Lax 14-12

PHILADELPHIA (3/31/10) - Princeton outscored Temple 4-3 in the second half but couldn't recover from a six-goal run by the Owls in the first half to fall 14-12 in women's lacrosse on Wednesday, March 31 at Geasey Field.
The No. 17-ranked Tigers took the lead 45 seconds into the game on a goal from freshman Jackie Klauberg. Ann Stouffer answered three minutes later, and the teams would continue to trade goals two more times in the next four minutes for a 3-3 tie at 22:34. Princeton went up 5-3 after back-to-back goals from freshman Charlotte Davis and senior Kristin Morrison.
The tide turned however when the Owls scored six unanswered goals in a 10-minute span to take a 9-5 lead with 8:25 to play in the half. The squad switched goalies after the fourth goal but the defense couldn't find an answer to the Temple attack.
Princeton got back in it with goals from Davis and freshman Sam Ellis, but Temple added two more to regain the four-goal lead. With two seconds left, Ellis added her second goal of the afternoon for the 11-8 halftime score.
The second half went back and forth with the teams trading goals with Temple never getting more than a three-goal lead.
Sophomore Cassie Pyle led the Tigers with two goals and two assists, while junior Lizzy Drumm tallied two goals and added an assist. Freshmen Sam Ellis and Davis both scored a pair of goals. Junior Erin Tochihara made seven saves on 17 shots, and senior Kaitlyn Perrelle stopped one of five shots.
Stephanie Markunas scored three goals and one assist for four points, while Charlotte Swavola and Ann Stouffer each recorded hat tricks. Goalkeeper Jessica Colucci made 12 saves on 24 shots.
Princeton had a 30-27 advantage in shots and won the draw control battle, 14-13. Temple had a 27-18 edge in ground balls and both teams caused six turnovers. Both teams are now 4-5 on the season.
Princeton hosts Cornell on Saturday, April 3 at 1 p.m., as the Tigers begin a three-game homestand.
