August 18, 2010 | Men's Soccer
PRINCETON, N.J. (8/18/10) - Josh Walburn of the Princeton men's soccer team has been named a candidate for the 2010 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award it was announced by the organization on Wednesday, August 18. He is one of 30 men's soccer players selected as a candidate.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence - classroom, character, community and competition.
A vital part of the Princeton men's soccer team Walburn has played a number of different positions, including center back, midfield and wide back. He was named first-team All-Ivy League and second-team All-Region by the NSCAA in 2009, while earning a spot on the ECAC All-Star first team. He started all 18 games playing both midfield and defense and finished second on the team in scoring with six goals and five assists for 17 points, while helping hold opponents to just 4.61 shots and 1.17 goals per game. Three of his goals were game-winning goals. Walburn was named the Ivy League Player of the Week after scoring three of Princeton's four goals during the opening week of the season.
A three-year starter, Walburn was recently named a third-team preseason All-America candidate by College Soccer News.
Lowe's, an official Corporate Partner of the NCAA, will announce the Senior CLASS Award winner during the 2009 NCAA Men's College Cup championship in early December. The 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select the one candidate who best exemplify excellence in the four C's of classroom, character, community and compeition.
