Andrea Kropp '14 Named To U.S. Squad For Junior Pan Pacific Games
August 24, 2010 | Women's Swimming and Diving
Incoming freshman Andrea Kropp punctuated a brilliant summer by earning a spot on the U.S. team for the 2010 Junior Pan Pacific Games. The U.S. junior national champion in the 200 breast will compete August 26-30 at the Kihei Aquatic Center in Maui, Hawaii. The meet will feature the top National Youth Teams from the Pacific Rim, including the U.S., Canada, Japan and Australia.
Athletes earned a trip to Junior Pan Pacific Games by being one of the top two athletes in Olympic events in the combined results of the ConocoPhillips National Championships, held August 3-7, and the Speedo Junior National Championships held August 9-12. At the national championships, Kropp placed fifth overall in the 200 breast and was within a second of placing third. She didn't lose to a swimmer under the age of 23, and the top two swimmers were both former Olympic gold medalists.
"I am so glad that I have the opportunity to represent the U.S. at such an exciting and prestigious competition," Kropp said. "Swimming against the best up-and-coming swimmers from both the United States and other countries will give me valuable experience which I will also be able to use when swimming as a Tiger."
