Princeton and Georgetown have met on just two occasions, in 1998 and 2002. Georgetown earned a 4-0 win in 1998 at the UConn Soccer Classic and won a 3-2 game in 2002 in Georgetown.
In the last meeting on Oct. 1, 2002, the Tigers found themselves in a 3-0 hole with 33 minutes to play. Eric White '01, who started in place of his injured brother Jason, stopped six shots on goal from the Hoyas' attack, but after a cross in front of the goal and a 40-yard shot into the top left corner of the net, Georgetown had built a comfortable lead on the Tigers. Adrian Melville '01 and Ryan Rich '01 scored goals six minutes apart to cut the deficit to one with less than 19 minutes to play but the rally fell short.
Princeton is 1-2 on the season. The Tigers have lost the last two games, to Lehigh and American, by one-goal margins after defeated Fairleigh Dickinson 1-0 in the season opener.
Junior forward Antoine Hoppenot has one goal and one assist to lead the Tigers in scoring. Junior Manny Sardinha and seniors Brandon Busch and Benjamin Burton all have one goal apiece. Team captain Sean Lynch has played all 270 minutes in goal and has made 13 saves on 18 shots for a 1.67 goals against average and a .722 save percentage.
The Hoyas are 2-2 on the season. After defeating Northeastern 2-1 in double overtime and a 4-0 shutout over Michigan State, Georgetown dropped games to New Mexico and Denver at the Lobo Invitational by matching 3-1 scores.
Junior forward Uche Onyeador and freshman midfielder Steve Neumann both have four points to lead the Hoyas in the scoring column. Onyeador's two goals were both game-winning goals in the first two contests. Sophomore midfielders Andy Riemer and Ian Christianson both have three points, while six other players have a point or more. Senior goalkeeper Matthew Brutto has started in three games and has a 1.25 goals against average and a .800 save percentage, allowing four goals on 20 shots. Senior Mark Wilber started the New Mexico game and made three saves on six shots for a 3.18 GAA and a .500 save percentage.
