Women's Soccer Opens Ivy with 1-0 Win at Yale
September 25, 2010 | Women's Soccer
NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Jen Hoy's team-leading fifth goal of the season lifted the Princeton women's soccer team to an Ivy League-opening 1-0 win over Yale Saturday afternoon in New Haven.
Hoy, on Caitlin Blosser's sixth assist of the season, scored in the 29th minute to give the Tigers the lead. Blosser sent the ball forward for Hoy, who raced past her Yale defenders to send a shot into the top corner of the goal.
Continuing a trend of the series' visiting team winning into a fourth straight game, Princeton outshot Yale 11-9 and forced Bulldogs goalkeeper Ayana Sumiyasu to make six saves while her Tiger counterpart Kristin Watson made three.
Overall, the win improves Princeton to 4-3 on the season, while Yale falls to 2-5-1 overall and 0-1 in the Ivy. The Tigers will face Fairfield Tuesday on Myslik Field at Roberts Stadium before returning to Ivy play next Saturday at home against Dartmouth.
