Halpern '99 Named to ECAC Hockey's Top 50 Players List

A Potomac, Maryland native, Halpern is Princeton all-time ironman, appearing in school record 132 games. He totaled 60 goals and 82 assists for 142 points in his Princeton career and is the Tigers' third all-time leading scorer. Halpern was a two-time All-ECAC forward and was twice named to the ECAC All-Tournament team. He was tournament's Most Outstanding Player in 1998 as Princeton, a seventh seed for the playoffs ran the table to win its first-ever ECAC Championship and earn its first NCAA tournament berth.
Halpern is Princeton's record holder for goals in a single season and was the ECAC goal-scoring champion on two occasions. His 53 points in 1998 also led all ECAC players. Halpern was a three-time winner of the men's hockey team's Blackwell Trophy and was awarded Princeton's Roper Trophy as a senior, the highest honor for a male athlete at the University.
Halpern followed up his four years in the Orange and Black with 11 in the National Hockey League, playing for the Washington Capitals, Dallas Stars, Tampa Bay Lightning, Los Angeles Kings and currently the Montreal Canadiens. His NHL totals are 138 goals and 197 assists for 335 points in 767 games played. He has also represented the United States on multiple occasions, including five world championships and the 2004 Work Cup of Hockey.

As part of its 50th anniversary celebration, ECAC Hockey has comprised a group of its top 50 players to recognize the storied history of the League and honor its significant players. The League today announced the sixth installment of honorees as part of its top 50 players of all-time. The top 50 players were determined by a selection committee made up of former coaches and media members. These honorees were tallied from 145 nominees (47 defensemen; 73 forwards; and 25 goaltenders). The league has announced five honorees at a time every other Wednesday. Halpern is the first Princetonian to be recognized. A full list of those already named to the list can be found here.
