Tuminelli Guides Men's Volleyball To First Win Of 2011 Season
January 29, 2011 | Men's Volleyball
Prior to the season opener this week, men's volleyball head coach Sam Shweisky lauded senior Vincent Tuminelli for the leadership he has provided both in the preseason and last year. With his team looking to end its California trip with a season-opening win, Tuminelli focused his leadership on the court and took over the game.
The three-year starter recorded 23 kills, 10 digs and hit .459 to lead the Princeton men to a 25-17, 29-27, 23-25, 25-16 win at Hope International. The win gives Princeton a 1-2 start for its season, and it will send the Tigers into their 2011 EIVA Tait opener next Friday at Rutgers-Newark with some positive momentum.
While Tuminelli led the way, he was far from the only Princeton player to give a standout effort. Freshman Jeff Stapleton had his best match of the young season, recording 17 kills, eight digs and a match-best five aces, while junior setter Scott Liljestrom added 33 assists and helped Princeton hit .320 for the match.
Sophomore Michael Dye, who joined Tuminelli on the EIVA all-tournament team last year, recorded five kills and eight blocks, while senior Keenan McCarthy added six kills and hit .625 for the match. Freshman Davis Waddell had four kills and 14 assists, while junior libero Dexter Scobee added nine digs.
