Men's Hockey Ties No. 6 Yale in Season Opener, 2-2

HANOVER, N.H. (10/28/11) - In his first game as head coach, Bob Prier guided the Princeton men's hockey team to a 2-2 tie with No. 6 Yale. The game was the first game of the annual Ivy Shooutout at Thompson Arena on Friday, Oct. 28 in the season opener.
All four goals were scored in the second period with junior Rob Kleebaum scoring the game-tying goal on a back hand into the top corner at 19:28. He was assisted by sophomores Kevin Ross and Jack Berger.Junior Michael Sdao put Princeton on the scoreboard at 4:16 with a long shot that took a bounce past Yale goalie Jeff Malcom. Junior Eric Meland and Berger would pick up assists on the goal. Four minutes later, however, Yale's Nicholas Weberg deadlocked the game again with a goal.
Brian O'Neill gave the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead with a power-play goal at 16:25, just three minutes before Kleebaum would tie it up.Sophomore netminder Sean Bonar made 28 saves for the Tigers, picking up five of those shots in the five minute overtime period. Malcom finished with 26 saves for the Ellis.
Yale had a 30-28 edge in shots, but Princeton had the upper hand in the second (14-9) and third (9-3) periods. Princeton was 0 for 2 on the power play and 4 for 5 on the on the penalty kill.The tie snapped Yale's five-game win streak in the series.
Princeton (0-0-1) will play Brown in the third game of the Ivy Shootout tomorrow at 4 p.m., at Thompson Arena. The Bears take on Dartmouth in the second game tonight.
