St. Lawrence Defeats Men's Hockey 3-2
November 11, 2011 | Men's Ice Hockey
PRINCETON, N.J. (11/11/11) - Senior Derrick Pallis assisted on both Princeton goals but a three-goal second period would lift St. Lawrence to a 3-2 win in men's hockey on Friday, Nov. 11 at Baker Rink.
The Saints used their backcheck to strip the puck from the Tigers on the left side boards inside the neutral zone. Patrick Doherty fed Kyle Flanagan across ice and Flanagan pushed the puck ahead for Greg Carey who went stick side on sophomore netminder Sean Bonar to make it a 1-0 game.
St. Lawrence would score back-to-back within 1:33 in the second period for the 3-0 lead. The Saints fought the puck off the boards near the team benches and Chris Martin sent a centering pass to Jacob Drewiske in the slot at 18:33. Carey recorded his second goal of the night at 19:34 when he flipped the puck over Bonar after Doherty won the puck in the neutral zone and sent it up ice.
Sophomore Andrew Ammon put Princeton on the scoreboard at 9:02 of the third period with his first goal of the season. Ammon had a shot ring around the back of the net and Pallis picked it up at the blue line and gave a centering pass back to Ammon who buried it to make it 3-1.
Princeton pulled Bonar for the extra skater and it worked to its advantage as the Tigers got within one on a Michael Sdao extra-attacker goal at 18:57. Junior Will MacDonald got the puck on a draw in the left face off circle and slipped it back to Pallis on the blue line. Pallis sent a cross-ice pass to Sdao who one-timed a shot for the goal.
Princeton outshot St. Lawrence 37-20, helped along by a 17-5 shot differential in the third frame. Bonar finished the night with 17 saves, while Matt Weninger made 35 saves in net for St. Lawrence.
Princeton falls to 1-4-1 on the season, and St. Lawrence moves to 2-5.
The Tigers host Clarkson tomorrow, Nov. 12 at 4 p.m. The Golden Knights played to a 1-1 tie with Quinnipiac this evening.
