Women's Swimming/Diving Hosts Big Al Open In Top Home Meet Of 2011-12
November 30, 2011 | Women's Swimming and Diving
For only the second time since 2006, the Princeton women's swimming and diving team won't host either the H-Y-P meet or the Ivy League Championships at DeNunzio Pool. Thus, your only chance to see the two-time defending Ivy League champions in a mulit-day home meet comes this weekend, when they host five other programs in the 2011 Big Al Open.
You can follow the weekend competition through both video stream and live results, with both links listed at the top of the story. A full weekend schedule, including teams, times and event order, can be found below the women-specific preview.
The Princeton women are 2-0 on the season and carry a dual-meet win streak of 40 into the weekend. The Tigers will be looking to extend that to 41, as their annual meet with Brown is scored during the competition.
Princeton won this meet last year with 1,190 points, topping both Florida and Washington State and more than doubling both Brown and Rider.
The Tigers have had another impressive start to their 2011-12 season, which includes dual wins against both Cornell and Penn the week before Thanksgiving. Princeton won 11 of 16 events in that tri-meet, and it had several impressive performances came from the Class of 2015. The Tiger freshmen, ranked as one of the top incoming classes in the nation, grabbed several Top-3 finishes, including a pair of wins for Claire Loht (200 free, 500 free) and a first- and second-place finish for Shirley Wang in the two back events.
Seniors Christina Kirkwood (1- and 3-meter diving) and Meredith Monroe (200 back) both picked up wins as well for Princeton, which won't return to DeNunzio Pool until the regular season finale Feb. 10 against Columbia. That will be Senior Day for the Tigers, as well as their final swim before the 2012 Ivy League Championships, which will be held Feb. 23-25 at Harvard.
Thirteen swimming and diving teams will meet at DeNunzio Pool this weekend for the annual Big Al Open, a three-day meet that brings the Princeton programs home for the final time until February. Times for all six sessions (preliminaries and finals), as well as diving, are now available.
The meet, both prelinaries and finals, will be video streamed live on GoPrincetonTigers.TV, which you can access here. You can follow live results, including all preliminary and finals times, here.
Joining the Princeton men and women this weekend will be: Brown (both), Columbia (men), Rutgers (women), Fordham (both), James Madison (women), Rider (both) and Villanova (both).
The competition will begin Friday, Dec. 2, with an 11 a.m. preliminary session and a 6 p.m. finals session. Saturday will also include sessions at 11 and 6, while Sunday will begin with preliminaries at 10 and conclude with finals at 5.
