HAMDEN, Conn. (12/11/11) - Princeton scored twice in the third period but couldn't get the equalizer as Quinnipiac took a 3-2 game in men's hockey on Sunday, Dec. 11 at the TD Bank Sports Center
Princeton seemed in control of the game in the opening minutes, but a couple quick penalties, giving Quinnipiac an extra man for four of the first eight minutes gave the Bobcats renewed strength.
Princeton did a great job on its first penalty kill, with a short handed chance by freshman Tucker Brockett and didn't allow a single shot on goal.
Clay Harvey put Quinnipiac on the board at 10:17 of the first with a shot inside the right circle that went stick side into the lower left pocket.
The Bobcats would score twice within 1:14 in the second period to take a three-goal lead.
An odd-man rush gave Quinnipiac its second goal. Reese Rolheiser sent a cross-ice pass to Kevin Buri. Buri missed the puck on the left side, but it was deflected to the right of the goal. Princeton netminder junior Mike Condon got back, but Buri went high over for the score at 4:45. Zack Currie rifled a shot from just inside the zone by the right boards that flew into the back of the net at 5:59.

Condon made some terrific saves to keep the score at 3-0. He stopped a 1-2 setup between Russell Goodman and Matthew Peca, and then stopped a breakaway by Goodman less than a minute later.
The Tigers started to come alive midway through the third and started to test goalie Eric Hartzell. Andrew Ammon had a couple chances out front, Eric Meland shot from the right boards, slapshot by Jack Berger would all be saved.
The Princeton power play gave the offense more motivation, as Quinnipiac got called twice around 18 minutes in, giving Princeton an eight-second 5x3. The Tigers started to pepper the net and continued to keep the puck down in the zone after both Bobcat penalties had expired.
Junior Michael Sdao got Princeton on the scoreboard at 15:19 with a rocket from the left point. He got the puck from freshman Aaron Kesselman on the left boards and rifled a hard hit shot that hit the back of the net and sailed back out, without losing steam. Sophomore Kevin Ross picked up the secondary assist.
Princeton pulled Condon for the extra skater at 17:09 and had some chances with three blocked shots before sophomore Andrew Calof would score. With an extra skater sophomore Jeremy Goodwin sent the puck across the blue line to Sdao. Sdao sent it into the slot where freshman Tyler Maugeri got his stick on it and sent it between two defenders to Calof inside the right circle who fired glove side on Hartzell.
Condon went back in goal for the center ice face off, and skated back off with 40 seconds to play. Sdao had two more chances for Princeton but the Tigers couldn't get the equalizer before time expired.
Condon finished the game with 35 saves and Hartzell made 36, as shots ended at 38 apiece. Both teams went 0 for 4 on the power play.
