Ammon Named ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Week
February 01, 2011 | Men's Ice Hockey
Ammon led all ECAC players with six points during the week and now seven goals and six assists for 13 points this season. After missing the first six games of the season with an injury, Ammon has played in 15 straight games and is averaging just under a point per game. The award is the second of the season for Ammon, who was also the league's top rookie in mid-December after he registered a hat trick in a win over UMass Lowell.
The week started with an assist on Princeton's first goal in a 7-1 win over Sacred Heart on Tuesday night. Three days later Ammon tallied two points, a goal and an assist, in the Tigers' 5-3 win at St. Lawrence. Ammon assisted on Princeton's second goal in the win and then scored shorthanded to give Princeton a 3-1 lead.
Ammon completed the weekend with a three-point afternoon in Princeton's 4-3 overtime win at Clarkson. Ammon assisted on the Tigers' first goal and then scored to give the Tigers leads of 2-1 and 3-2 and was on the ice when Kevin Lohry scored nine seconds into overtime for the win.
Ammon and the Tigers are back in action this weekend at Hobey Baker Rink for a big series with eighth-ranked Rensselaer and 11th-ranked Union. The teams currently reside in second (Union), third (Princeton) and fourth (Rensselaer) in the ECAC standings. Princeton hosts Union on Friday at 7 p.m., and RPI on Saturday at 4 p.m.
