Volleyball Opens EIVA Stretch With 3-0 Loss At Saint Francis
February 12, 2011 | Men's Volleyball
Despite a team-high 11 kills from sophomore Pat Schwagler, the Princeton men's volleyball team dropped the first match in a six-game division streak in a 3-0 loss at Saint Francis.
Princeton, which has lost three straight since returning from California, was highly competitive in two of the three games, but the home team came up with the final points to take the match 31-29, 25-17, 28-26. The Red Flash moves to 4-4 overall, 1-2 in the division, while Princeton falls to 1-5, 0-2.
Schwagler recorded 11 kills in 22 swings, while senior co-captain had nine kills and a team-best 11 digs. The offense, which got eight kills apiece from freshman Jeff Stapleton and sophomore Michael Dye, was paced by junior setter Scott Liljestrom, who recorded 37 assists. Middle Keenan McCarthy recorded three kills without an error and added two blocks.
Things won't get any easier for the Tigers, who will travel to State College Saturday for an afternoon match against Penn State. This will be the teams' first meeting since the 2010 EIVA final, when Princeton hung tough in the first two sets but ultimately fell 3-0.
