February 13, 2011 | Men's Volleyball
Despite a team-high 11 kills from sophomore Michael Dye, the Princeton men's volleyball team fell to 0-3 in the EIVA Tait Division with a 3-0 loss to the ninth-ranked Penn State Nittany Lions.
Dye, whose last trip to State College ended with his being named to the EIVA All-Tournament team, hit .350 and added three digs and a block in Princeton's fourth straight loss since returning from California. Fellow sophomore Pat Schwagler added eight kills, six digs and four blocks against the Nittany Lions, who remained undefeated in four Tait matches.
The offense was paced by junior setter Scott Liljestrom, who recorded 26 assists, while freshman Jeff Stapleton had a team-best seven digs and added five kills and three assists for the Tigers.
Princeton, which reached the 2010 EIVA final before falling to Penn State in three games, has a chance to get itself out of an early hole in league play with three straight home matches, beginning Friday night at 7 p.m. against George Mason. Princeton will also host Rutgers-Newark and Springfield over the following eight days.
