Waters Sets Princeton Record In 100 Fly, Will Swim For All-America Saturday
March 18, 2011 | Women's Swimming and Diving
Senior Megan Waters both set a Princeton record and improved on her seed for a second straight day, and now she will prepare for her final collegiate swim in her best event.
One day after finishing 19th in the 50 free during the 2011 NCAA Championships, held in Austin, Texas, Waters dropped from the 40s to 27th place in the 100 fly with a Princeton-record time of 53.28. She had set the previous record of 53.38 while winning her first 100 fly title at the past Ivy League Championship meet, where she was named the Swimmer of the Meet and led Princeton to its 10th Ivy League title in 12 years.
Waters will compete in one final event, and it is her strongest. The two-time Ivy League 100 free champion will compete in that event during Saturday's preliminary session, and she will do so as the 15th seed. If she can at least hold her seed, she will be guaranteed her first All-America honor; the top eight in each event are first-team All-America selections, while Nos. 9-16 earn All-America Honorable Mention.
