No. 10 Penn State Sweeps Men's Volleyball In Front Of Capacity Crowd

An overflow crowd at Dillon Gym was treated to both an impressive performance from the 10th-ranked Penn State men's volleyball team and a gritty show by the home Princeton Tigers. The 12-time defending EIVA champion Nittany Lions were too strong, taking a 25-21, 25-16, 25-16 victory over a Princeton team that faces a must-win match Saturday.
Penn State improved to 18-5 overall and 8-0 in the Tait Division with a 3-0 win over Princeton, which fell to 2-14 overall and 0-8 in the Tait. The Tigers now need to sweep their final two matches, starting Saturday at 4 in a home match against Saint Francis.
Princeton sophomore Michael Dye had one of the best matches of his season, recording a match-high 10 kills and five digs against the Nittany Lions. Dye has saved some of his best performances for the Nittany Lions; he was named to the EIVA all-tournament team after a strong showing in the 2010 EIVA final at Penn State.
Dye was the only hitter to have a strong day against a tough Penn State defense. As a team, Princeton hit .105, while Penn State hit .414 for the match and at least .360 in each individual game.
Junior Scott Liljestrom recorded 23 assists in the match, while both freshman Davis Waddell and senior Keenan McCarthy had three blocks apiece. McCarthy added two aces, while freshman outside Jeff Stapleton recorded six kills, three digs and an ace.
