Women's Lax Looks to Stay Unbeaten in League with Trip to Cornell

PRINCETON, N.J. (3/29/11) – The Princeton women's lacrosse team looks to stay unbeaten in the Ivy League when it travels to play at Cornell on Saturday, April 2 at noon.
The game will be webstreamed on Cornell All-Access for a fee of $7.95, and live stats will be available free of charge.
Cornell ended Princeton's 22-game winning streak in the series last year with an 11-8 game at Princeton Stadium. It was the Big Red's first win in the series since 1988. The Tigers boast a 29-3 record in the all-time series.
Princeton is 4-3 on the season and is coming off of a 12-11 win over Georgetown. All three of the Tigers' losses were to top-10 teams. Princeton itself is ranked No. 12 in the latest IWLCA national poll. The Tigers are tied for first place in the Ivy League standings, along with Penn and Dartmouth, with a 1-0 record after defeating Brown 17-5 back on March 12.
Sophomore Jaci Gassaway leads the team in scoring with 20 points off of 11 goals and nine assists. Senior Lizzy Drumm has a team-high 15 goals and one assist for 16 points and leads the team with 17 draw control wins. Juniors Cassie Pyle and Barb Previ have 14 points apiece. Senior goalie Erin Tochihara has played every minute between the pipes. She's made 64 saves on 135 shots for a 10.00 goals against average and a .474 save percentage. Tochihara leads the team in ground balls with 16. Junior defender Lindsey deButts is second on the team in ground balls with 13 and in draw controls with 12. Fellow defender, senior Cathy Bachur is second on the team in caused turnovers with seven, three fewer than sophomore Caroline Rehfuss.
The Big Red enter the weekend with a 3-5 overall record and is 1-2 in the Ivy League. The team lost a one-goal game to Harvard and fell to Penn 10-6 last Saturday. Cornell averages 8.39 goals and 28 shots per game while allowing 10.86 goals and 24.1 shots per game. A weakness for the Big Red is their free-position conversion, getting just eight goals 37 attempts. Junior Jessi Steinberg leads the team in scoring with 21 goals and two assists for 23 points. Senior Libby Johnson has 14 goals and three assist for 17 points, while junior Katie Kirk has 14 points on 12 goals and two assists. Sophomore Caroline Salisbury adds 10 points while junior Olivia Knots has eight with a team-high six helpers.
Sophomore Kate Ivory has a team-best 22 ground balls with junior Cacki Helmer following with 14. Steinberg has won the most draw controls, 18 total, with Kirk winning 13. Ivory also leads the team in caused turnovers with 16, with the next teammate getting only five.
Junior Kyla Dambach has started every goal in goal and has made 41 saves on 116 shots for an 11.10 goals against average and a .353 save percentage. Sophomore Courtney Gallagher has come in on relief in three games and has made 12 stops on 25 shots in less than 81 minutes.
