Drumm Scores Six as Duke Delivers 19-12 Loss to Women's Lax

DURHAM, N.C. (3/5/11) - Senior Lizzy Drumm had six goals but a nine-goal halftime deficit was too much to overcome as the Princeton women's lacrosse team fell to No. 4 Duke, 19-12 on Saturday, March 5 at Koskinen Stadium.
Despite a 12-3 halftime deficit, Princeton refused to quit and used a 14-2 advantage in draw controls during the second half to outscore the Blue Devils 9-7.
The team's traded free-position goals to start the game but Duke tallied a quick two goals to take the 3-1 lead. Sophomore Jaci Gassaway feed Lizzy Drumm from behind the cage for a goal on the doorstep to make it a one-goal game at 22:39.
Duke used a 9-1 run over the final 20 minutes getting goals from nine different players to take the 12-3 lead.
The Tigers scored two quick goals early in the half from Dumm and sophomore Sam Ellis but Duke was able to match the effort with goals from Virginia Crotty and Christie Kaestner. The two squads traded goals the rest of the way until Duke pulled ahead 19-9 with 3:51 remaining.
Princeton would close out the game scoring three unanswered. Drumm scored a pair of goals within 22 seconds of each other and junior Cassie Pyle added an unassisted marker.
In addition to Drumm's six goals, which matched her career-high, sophomore Charlotte Davis had three goals and Gassaway would have one goal and two assists. Junior Barb Previ, Pyle and Ellis all finished with two points apiece. Drum's six goals matched her career best in a game.
Senior Erin Tochihara made 10 saves for the Tigers, while
her counterpart Mollie Mackler made 10 on the other end.
Princeton moves to 2-1 on the season, while Duke improves to 4-1.
The Tigers return home to face Brown in the first Ivy League game of of the season on Saturday, March 12 at 1 p.m.
