Men's Tennis Defeats Harvard, Improves to 5-0 in Ivy
April 11, 2011 | Men's Tennis
PRINCETON -- Winning its fifth straight Ivy League match by a 4-3 score, the Princeton men's tennis team stayed undefeated in league play with a Sunday afternoon defeat of Harvard.
The Tigers and Cornell are the only league-undefeated teams in the Ivy, with the Big Red at 4-0, Princeton at 5-0 and the other six Ivy teams with at least two losses apiece. Cornell will visit Penn Friday while the Tigers will host Columbia that afternoon before the teams meet next Sunday in Ithaca, N.Y.
The win continued the best league start for Princeton since 1992, when the Tigers were a part of the Eastern Intercollegiate Tennis Association, which included the eight Ivies plus Army and Navy. Princeton started 5-0 that year as well.
Against the Crimson, Princeton took the doubles point and won three of the first four singles matches to be decided. Alex Faust won on court five and Augie Bloom did so on court three before Matija Pecotic won his match at first singles to clinch the team victory.
Friday's match against Columbia will begin at 2 p.m. outdoors at the Lenz Tennis Center or indoors at Jadwin Gym if inclement weather.
