PRINCETON, N.J. (4/11/11) – The Princeton women's lacrosse team will take a break from its Ivy League schedule when it travels to take on the defending national champion Maryland on Wednesday, April 13 at 7 p.m.
Fans unable to make it to College Park can listen to the live audio stream and follow live stats free of charge.
Maryland leads the all-time series with Princeton 22-8. The Terps broke a three-game losing streak in the series last year with a 13-6 win as the No. 3-ranked team, six weeks before winning the title.
Princeton is 6-3 on the season and ranked No. 12 in the nation. The Tigers are on a three-game winning streak, their last loss a one-goal game at No. 8 Virginia. All three of Princeton's losses this season have been to teams ranked in the top 10 (Duke, JMU, Virginia). Princeton averages 10.78 goals per game and holds teams to 9.33.
Sophomore Jaci Gassaway leads the team in scoring with 24 points on 14 goals and 10 assists. Senior Lizzy Drumm has a team-high 19 goals to go along with one assist for 20 points. Juniors Cassie Pyle and Barb Previ add 18 and 17 points respectively. Sophomores Charlotte Davis and Sam Ellis and freshman Sarah Llloyd are also in double digits in scoring. Junior defender Lindsey deButts leads the team in ground balls with 21 with senior goalie Erin Tochihara second with 17. deButts is second on the team in caused turnovers with 11, one back from sophomore Caroline Rehfuss who has played in the back this season and has 12 caused turnovers. Drumm has a team-best 21 draw controls with deButts winning 12. Tochihara has played every minute in goal and has made 79 saves on 163 shots for a 9.23 goals against average and a .485 save percentage.
Maryland retains its ranking of the top team in the country with an undefeated 13-0 record. The Terps average 16.38 goals per game while limiting teams to 6.46 gpg, with best scoring margin in the nation.
Senior Sarah Mollison leads the team in points with 29 goals and 37 assists for 66 points, followed by junior Karri Ellen Johnson with 51 points off 39 goals and 12 assists. Johnson has sat out the last two games because of a concussion and her status for Wednesday's game is unknown. Sophomore middie Katie Schwarzmann has a team-best 41 goals and six assists for 47 points. Kristy Black, Alex Aust, Laura Merrifield, Brandi Jones and Beth Glaros are all in double figures in scoring.
Schwarzmann leads the team in ground balls with 27 followed by senior defender Brittamy Poist with 18. Schwarzmann is second on the team in draw controls with 29 with Johnson collecting 35. Senior defender Katie Gallagher has caused a team-high 30 turnovers with Mollison having 26 to her credit.
Junior goalie Brittany Dipper has started all 13 games and has made 67 saves and allowed 70 goals for a .489 save percentage and a 6.55 GAA. Junior Mary Jordan and sophomore Kasey Howard have both seen action in four games and both have a save percentage over .500.
