Drumm Scores Five as Women's Lacrosse Falls 17-10 to Maryland

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (4/13/11) - Senior attacker Lizzy Drumm scored half of her team's goals as the No. 12 Princeton women's lacrosse team fell 17-10 to defending national champion No. 1 Maryland on Wednesday, April 13.
Sophomore Sam Ellis added four points with three goals and an assist, matching her career best. Junior Cassie Pyle tallied a goal and an assist each and senior goalie Erin Tochihara made six saves.
Princeton had a 28-26 advantage in shots and won 51 percent of the draw controls in the game. Maryland had a 15-10 edge in ground balls.
Maryland jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first 18:18, with five different players scoring.
Drumm quelled the Terrapin run with an unassisted goal at 7:14 but Maryland responded with a quick goal on the restart.
Pyle set up Drumm for the Tigers' second goal and sophomore Jaci Gassaway converted on a free-position attempt as Princeton cut its deficit to 7-3, with 3:26 remaining.
Maryland's Laura Merrifield would score two tallies in the final three minutes of the half to give her team a 9-3 lead at the end of one.
The Terps opened the second like the first, scoring three unanswered goals in the first 6:12.
The teams would trade goals for the next 10 minutes. Ellis, Pyle and Drumm would each score for the Tigers, while Alex Aust, Sarah Mollison and Merrifield tallied goals for Maryland to make it 15-6 with 13 minutes to play.
Maryland tallied two more goals before Princeton went on a 4-0 run in the game's final 6:34, with Drumm and Ellis trading the first two goals and then assisting on each other's next goals.
Mollison led the Terrapins with six points on three goals and three assists while Merrifield had a team-best four goals and an assist. Kristy Black and Katie Schwarzmanr both had four points, while Brandi Jones and Aust had three points apiece. Goalie Brittany Dipper earned the start and made nine saves in the first 51:48. Mary Jordan would play the final 8:12 and allowed all four shots on goal.
Maryland improves to 14-0 while Princeton falls to 6-4, with all four losses to team's ranked in the top 10 national poll.Princeton resumes Ivy League play on Saturday, April 16 when it hosts Harvard at Princeton Stadium at 1 p.m.
