May 10, 2011 | Women's Lacrosse
Synapse Sports, formerly womenslacrosse.com, has chosen Erin Tochihara as the Division I Defensive Player of the Week, they announced on Monday, May 9.
Synapse Sports had this to say: "Tochihara backstopped the Tigers to the Ivy League title, making 19 saves en route to the title. One of them came at the end of regulation in the semifinal against top seed Penn, preserving the tie as Princeton went on to win in overtime. Tochihara added three ground balls, helping the Tigers play their way into the NCAA tournament."
Tochihara played a major role in Princeton's wins over top seeded Penn and Harvard in the Ivy League Tournament. She made 10 saves against No. 8 Penn on Friday night in the semifinal. Two of those saves came in the final seconds of regulation on back to back Penn shots. Tochihara would keep the second shot and hang on to force overtime. On Sunday, she made nine saves against Harvard en route to being named All-Tournament. She was tested early by Harvard and made three saves in the first seven minutes before Princeton rattled off five straight goals. Three of those nine saves came on free-position attempts.
Princeton will face James Madison in the NCAA Tournament on Saturday, May 14 at 1 p.m.
