Women's Lacrosse Faces JMU in NCAA Tournament First Round

PRINCETON, N.J. (5/10/11) – The Princeton women's lacrosse team travels to play No. 8-seeded James Madison in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday, May 14 at 1p.m., at JMU Lacrosse Complex.
Tickets for the game are $5 for adults, and $3 for youth and seniors and can be purchased the day of the game at the gate. Fans unable to make it to Harrisonburg, can listen to an audio stream of the game and follow along with live stats free of charge.
Princeton enters the NCAA Tournament with an 11-6 overall record. The Tigers reached the tournament earning the Ivy League's automatic bid by winning the Ivy League Tournament as the No. 4 seed in the four-team tournament. The Tigers knocked off No. 8 Penn 10-8 in overtime in the semifinal, and defeated Harvard 12-10 in the title game. Princeton averages 11.47 goals per game and limits opponents to 10. Junior Cassie Pyle sits atop the scoring column with 51 points on 34 goals and a team-best 17 assists. Senior Lizzy Drumm has a team-high 43 goals and three assists for 46 points. Sophomore Jaci Gassaway adds 31 goals and 11 assists for 42 points. Adding depth to the attack is 31 points from sophomore Charlotte Davis, 25 points from both junior Barb Previ and sophomore Sam Ellis and 24 from freshman Sarah Lloyd. Junior Lindsey deButts leads the team in caused turnovers with 25 and ground balls with 38, she ranks second in draw controls with 21. Drumm is the team draw control leader with 39 wins from the center circle. Senior Erin Tochihara has started in every game in goal for the Tigers. She has made 159 saves and allowed 170 goals for a 9.91 goals against average and a .483 save percentage. Tochihara is second on the team in ground balls with 32 pick ups. Her save percentage ranks ninth in the nation, as she makes an average of 9.4 saves per game.
Princeton leads the all-time series with JMU, 10-3. The schools have faced each other once in the NCAA Tournament in 2000 with Princeton winning 15-9. The Dukes have won the last two meetings, including a 10-5 game on March 16 in Harrisonburg.
JMU has a 15-3 record and is 8-1 when playing on its home field. The Dukes won the CAA to earn an automatic bid to the tournament. JMU averages 11.28 goals per game and limits team's to 8.44 gpg. Offensively, the Dukes are led by sophomore attacker Casey Ancarrow. Ancarrow has 42 goals and 16 assists for 58 points. Senior Mary Kate Lomady also has 16 assists to go along with 38 goals for 54 points. Junior Monica Zabel has a team-high 25 assists and 20 goals for 45 points. Five other players are in double digits in scoring. Junior Alex Menghetti has played in all 18 games in goal. She has made 90 saves on 234 shots for an 8.76 goals against average and a .385 save percentage. Sophomore Alisa Konishi has made seven appearances in net and has a .500 save percentage and a 4.56 GAA. Junior middie Annie Brophy is the team leader in caused turnovers with 15 and is second in ground balls with 28, behind Menghetti's 36. Junior defender Cally Chakrian also has 15 caused turnovers and leads the team off the draw with 42 draw controls. Zabel is second with 29.
The winner will advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals to face the winner of the Maryland/Navy game on May 21 at the site of the highest remaining seed.
