PRINCETON, N.J. (5/7/11) – The Princeton women's lacrosse team will play for the Ivy League's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament when it takes on Harvard in the Ivy League Championship on Sunday, May 8 at 1 p.m.
Tickets for the Ivy League Championship game are $8 for adults and $4 for children and students. Fans can purchase tickets by calling the Penn Box Office at (215) 898-6151 or by clicking on the link above.
The game will be televised live on CBS College Sports. Fans can also listen the live play-by-play by Princeton's Ed Benkin online and follow along with live stats free of charge.
Princeton enters today's game with a 10-6 overall record. The Tigers knocked off No. 8 Penn 10-8 in overtime in Friday's semifinal, the second time Princeton defeated Penn this year. Princeton averages 11.44 goals per game and limits opponents to 10. Junior Cassie Pyle has taken over as the scoring leader after a five-point game against Penn. She has a team-high 14 assists and 33 points for 47 points. Senior Lizzy Drumm has a team-best 40 goals to go along with three assists. Sophomore Jaci Gassaway has 39 points and classmate Charlotte Davis has 28. Junior Barb Previ and freshman Sarah Lloyd each have 24 points apiece. Sophomore Sam Ellis and senior Maisie Devine also are in double digits in scoring. Junior Lindsey deButts leads the team in caused turnovers with 23 and ground balls with 36. Drumm is the team draw control leader with 35 wins from the center circle. Senior Erin Tochihara has started in every game in goal for the Tigers. She has made 150 saves and allowed 160 goals for a 9.91 goals against average and a .484 save percentage. Tochihara is second on the team in ground balls with 31 pick ups.
Princeton leads the all-time series with Harvard, 24-17. The Crimson have won the last two meetings, including a 9-8 win during the regular season at Princeton Stadium. Harvard has a 2-1 edge when it comes to playing on neutral fields.
Harvard is 10-5 on the season and is coming off of a 11-10 win over Dartmouth in the Ivy League semifinal. Harvard and Princeton both finished 5-2 in the league to finish in a third-place tie. The Crimson averages 12.33 goals per game and holds teams to 10.13. Harvard rarely has assists on goals with just 27 helpers on 185 goals. Jenn VanderMeulen has 48 goals and five assists to lead the Crimson with 53 points. Danielle Tetreault adds 44 points on 38 goals and six helpers. Melanie Baskind contributes 33 points, Jess Halpern has 27, Tyler Petropulos has 17 and Chelsey Newman has 13 to round out the double-digit scorers. Tetreault and Baskind are the team leaders in draw controls with 26 and 23, respectively. Mariah Pewarski has a team-best 16 caused turnovers while Ellen Gleason has 15 and Lauren Tomkinson has 14. With 32 ground balls, Baskind is the team leader with goalie Kerry Clark second with 23. Clark has played every minute in goal and has made 89 saves on 241 shots for a 10.13 goals against average and a .369 save percentage.
