She played at Princeton from 1998-2001. She started her career earning the 1998 Ivy League Rookie of the Year award and capped it off as a finalist for the 2001 Tewaaraton Trophy.
Shaner is a three-time All-America and earned All-Ivy League honors all four years. As team captain in 2001, she guided the Tigers to the Ivy League title and to the NCAA semifinals. This came one year after the team was the national runner up and she made her way onto the 2000 NCAA All-Tournament team.
During her tenure Princeton posted a 53-19 overall record, was 24-4 in the Ivy League and reached at least the NCAA Quarterfinal round all four years.
Shaner is Princeton's all-time ground ball leader with 289 ground balls in her career. She had 91 during both her freshman and junior years and has the record for the most in a game with 12 coming against Georgetown on May 6, 1998. Shaner is second all-time in caused turnovers with 165, highlighted by 57 in 1998 with included a personal best eight against Georgetown. She also ranks eighth all-time in career assists with 55.
A dual-sport athlete, Shaner was also a member of the Princeton soccer team. She was a two-time team captain of the soccer program that made the NCAA tournament in 1999 and 2000 and won the Ivy League title her senior year. She was named All-Ivy League all four years, three-time team MVP and three-time NSCAA All-Region selection.
She was presented the C. Otto von Kienbusch Award in 2001 shortly before she received her degree in psychology.
