September 04, 2011 | Women's Soccer
LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Two goals in the first 20 minutes Sunday afternoon helped Cal State Northridge defeat the Princeton women's soccer team 3-1 in the Tigers' second game of the 2011 season.
The match was Princeton's second on its weekend trip to Southern California after losing at Long Beach State 3-1 Friday evening. The Tigers will head back to New Jersey for their next contest, a Friday night game at Seton Hall.
Northridge's (1-4) Heidi Farran scored in the fifth and 20th minutes, and the Matadors made it 3-0 in the 65 minute on a goal by Brielle Slepicoff.
Princeton's (0-2) goal came in the 85th minute from junior Caitlin Blosser off an assist by rookie Melissa Downey. The weekend was a homecoming for Blosser, a Los Angeles native who is Princeton's only current player from Southern California. Blosser was Princeton's second-leading goal scorer in 2010 with six.
Princeton junior goalkeeper Claire Pinciaro made three saves before being relieved by freshman Darcy Hargadon after Northridge's third goal. Counterpart Cynthia Jacobo saved two of the three Princeton shots on goal.
The Tigers had all five of the game's corner kicks, but Northridge outshot Princeton 17-8. Blosser had three of the Tigers' attempts.
