January 29, 2012 | Men's Tennis
COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- In a match that nearly went the distance before a clincher, No. 72 Purdue outlasted the No. 63 Princeton men's tennis team 4-2 Sunday afternoon in Texas.
Purdue won the doubles point by taking the first two matches to be decided before Augie Bloom and Matija Pecotic claimed a 9-7 decision at on court two.
Princeton got the first point in singles play to tie it up when 46th-ranked Pecotic defeated 105th-ranked Mark Kovacz in straight sets, but Purdue won three of the next four matches to be played to completion. Purdue's Evan Hawkins capped it off with a win over Ravi Yegya-Raman at sixth singles for the clincher. Freshman Zack McCourt accounted for Princeton's second point with his three-set winner over Krisztian Krocsko at fifth singles.
The Tigers will return to the northeast for a match at Penn State Wednesday before returning home for Cleveland State Saturday.
