PRINCETON, N.J. (1/4/11) - ECAC Hockey action resumes for the Princeton men's hockey team as the Tigers travel to Brown on Friday, Jan. 6 and Yale on Saturday, Jan. 7. Both games begin at 7 p.m.
Princeton enters the weekend with a 4-9-4 overall record after posting matching 3-3 ties against Northeastern and Niagara at the Mariucci Classic last weekend. The Tigers are looking to end a five-game winless streak. Princeton has played the most league games of the 12 and is ninth in the ECAC standings with a 3-7-1 mark. Sophomore Jack Berger is the team's leading scorer with seven goals and six assists for 13 points. Classmate Andrew Calof has 11 points on four goals and seven assists. Defenders Micahel Sdao and Derrick Pallis are next on the score sheet with 10 and nine points, respectively, with Pallis leading the squad in assists with eight. Sophomore Sean Bonar has made 13 starts in goal and has a 2.94 goals against average and an .899 save percentage. Junior Mike Condon has made four starts and has a 2.92 GAA and a .911 save percentage. The pair split games at the Mariucci Classic. The Tigers average 2.41 goals per game and allow 3.06. Princeton's power play is at 19.4% (14/72) and the penalty kill is 82.21% (55/67).
Brown leads the series 81-64-7, which began in 1900-01. The squads met earlier this year at the Ivy Shootout with Brown taking a 3-2 game. Last year, Princeton also lost to Brown at the Shootout in a one-goal game but followed up by sweeping the regular season, 4-3 and 7-3. Against the Bears, Andrew Calof has six points in five games. Derrick Pallis has five points in his career versus the Bears. Mike Condon has played three gaves versus Sean Bonar's one. Condon has a .910 save percentage and a 2.71 GAA against the Bears.
Brown is 6-6-1 overall and on a three-game winning streak. The Bears have a 3-3 record in league play to sit 11th in the league standings. Senior Jack Maclellan has seven goals and six assists for 13 points. Freshman Ryan Jacobson has 12 points on six goals and assists apiece. Sophomore Matt Wahl has a team-leading nine assists and two goals for 11 points. Senior Mike Clemente has started in goal in all but one game. He has a 2.51 GAA and a .909 save percentage. The Bears average and allow 2.62 gpg. Brown's power play is 13.8% (8/58) and its penalty kill is 84.7% (50/59).
Yale owns a 126-102-10 record in the series that began on Jan. 19, 1901. The Bulldogs are undefeated in the last six games, 5-0-1, including a 2-2 tie at the Ivy Shootout in October. Andrew Calof, Rob Kleebaum and Michael Sdao all have four points against the Elis, with Sdao boasting a +5 on-ice rating. Sean Bonar got his first taste of Yale in October making 28 stops. Mike Condon has seen Yale on relief, making four saves in 9:27.
Yale is 7-5-1 overall and 4-2 in league play to sit in a four-way tie for fourth place in the ECAC. The Bulldogs most recently defeated Bentley 9-3 on Jan. 1 after a 24-day hiatus. Senior Brian O'Neill leads the team in scoring with nine goals and six assists with 15 points. Junior Andrew Miller has a team-best 11 assists and two goals for 13 points. Junior Antoine Laganiere and sophomore Kenny Agostino both have 12 points. Junior Jeff Malcolm is the team's top goalie starting in all 13 games. He has a 2.54 GAA and a .921 save percentage. Yale averages 3.54 goals per game (6th in the nation) and gives up 2.85. The power play is 28.6% (16/56), which is second in the nation behind Harvard and they boast the top penalty kill in the country at 94.4% (51/54).
