#11 Long Beach State Sweeps Volleyball In Middle Match Of Road Trip
February 01, 2012 | Men's Volleyball
Despite six kills from freshman Will Siroky, the Princeton men's volleyball team dropped its second match in California late Tuesday night.
The 11th-ranked Long Beach State 49ers, playing their eighth match of the season, were far too strong for a Princeton squad still looking to develop chemistry. Racing out to big leads in each of the first two sets, the 49ers came away with a 25-13, 25-9, 25-18 victory.
For the second straight match, a freshman led Princeton in kills. One night after a terrific debut from opposite Cody Kessel, Siroky had a team-best six kills from the middle. He hit .667 for the match (6/0/9), and he added two digs a block. Kessel, who was second on the team with five kills, led Princeton with three blocks. A third freshman, Tony Ensbury, had a team-best five digs.
Sophomores Davis Waddell and Jeff Stapleton both added three kills, while senior Scott Liljestrom had 18 assists and three digs.
Princeton will complete its three-match California trip Wednesday night at 8 p.m. PST against Cal-San Diego (Live Video l Live Stats). The Tritons, who leads the all-time series 13-4, have won 11 straight against Princeton, including a 3-0 home win last season.
