Women's Tennis Opens Ivy Season, Defeats Penn 6-1
March 31, 2012 | Women's Tennis
PRINCETON - Opening the Ivy League season, the Princeton women's tennis team beat Penn 6-1 in the first of seven matches that will decide the league champion, all in the month of April.
The win also gives the Princeton seniors, Hilary Bartlett and Rachel Saiontz, the distinction of being the first class since 1991 to sweep rival Penn in their four contests.
Princeton took all three matches in the doubles point, with Bartlett and freshman Lindsay Graff winning a battle of ranked pairs in defeating Sol Eskenazi and Jules Rodin 8-2.
Eskenazi returned the favor against Bartlett in singles play, but that was Penn's only point. Graff, Saiontz, Katherine Flanigan, Monica Chow and Katie Goepel all won their singles matches, four of those coming in straight sets.
The Tigers will take to the road to face Brown and Yale, two fellow ITA-ranked opponents, next Friday and Saturday as the Ivy League season continues.
