PRINCETON, N.J. (3/7/12) – The Ivy League lacrosse season gets underway this Saturday, March 10 when Princeton travels to Brown for a 1 p.m., game.
Eye on the TigersPrinceton enters the weekend with a 1-2 record and ranked No. 14 in the IWLCA national poll. The Tigers most recently lost 12-9 to Duke, three days after falling in overtime to Rutgers. Princeton started the season with a commanding 16-3 win at Villanova. Junior Jaci Gassaway is the Tigers' leading scorer with 13 points on nine goals and four assists. Sophomore Mary-Kate Sivilli and freshman Erin McMunn both have nine points with McMunn picking up a team-best seven assists, Sivilli on the other hand getting five of her nine points by way of goals. Senior Barb Previ adds six points, while senior Cassie Pyle, sophomore Sarah Lloyd and junior Charlotte Davis have four points apiece. Freshman Annie Woehling has started all three games in goal. She has an 8.46 goals against average and a .306 save percentage.
The Series
Princeton holds a substantial 30-3 record over Brown in the 30+ year series. The Tigers have won the last 21 meetings including a 17-5 win last year at home. This is the third straight season that Princeton opens the Ivy slate with Brown.
Scouting the Bears
Brown is 2-1 on the season. The Bears opened on Feb. 25 with a 16-3 loss at Ohio State, before playing back-to-back games in New York City. Brown defeated Columbia 14-10 on March 3 and Manhattan 9-2 on March 4.
Senior Kaela McGilloway leads the team in scoring with six goals and four assists for 10 points. Sophomore Danielle Mastro has scored four times and adds two assists for six points, while Bre Hudgins has three goals and one helper. Sophomore Grace Healy, junior Lindsay Minges and senior Julia Keller have three points apiece. Hudgins and Healy both have a team-best six draw controls, while Hudgins leads the Bears in ground balls with five. Freshman Alyssa DiBona has the most caused turnovers with three to her credit. Senior goalie Isabel Harvey has started in all three games. She has made 15 saves and allowed 18 for a 9.00 goals against average and a .455 save percentage.

Princeton had 10 different goal
scorers as it upended Brown 17-5 in the Ivy League
opener on Saturday, March 12 at Princeton Stadium.
Junior Barb Previ had a five-point game with three goals and two assists and sophomore Jaci Gassaway had two goals and two assists. Senior Lizzy Drumm tallied a hat trick and had a team-high five draw controls. Sophomores Charlotte Davis and Sam Ellis both had three-point games, with Davis winning four draws. Rounding out the multiple-point scorers was freshman Mary-Kate Sivilli with two goals. Sophomore midfielder Caroline Rehfuss caused a career-high six turnovers, while senior defender Caroline Markowitz had three.
No. 17-Princeton took a 10-0 lead in the first half. The Tigers limited Brown to just seven shots and forced them into 13 turnovers in the first frame.
Brown tallied back-to-back goals to start the second session but Previ ended the run 27 seconds later with her third of the day and Ellis followed with an unassisted marker to turn the running clock back on with the 10-goal expansion.
Bre Hudgins would stop the clock on a goal but Princeton quickly answered back as Charlotte Davis won a clean draw and quickly ran to the cage to feed Ellis for the goal.
Senior Maisie Devine scored on a free-position attempt to make it a 14-3 game forcing Brown to replace Isabel Harvey in goal with Maggie Suprey.
Brown's leading scorer Kaela McGilloway scored an unassisted goal at 14:55 but Princeton would get goals from Drumm and Gassaway to make it a 16-4 game. Hudgins would get her second of the day and Brown's final goal with 4:38 left.
Freshman Erin Williams recorded her first career goal with an unassisted goal picking up a ground ball and tossing it into the net at 2:34 for the final goal of the afternoon.
Senior Erin Tochihara made seven saves in her third win of the season. Harvey made five stops and allowed 14. Suprey made one save and give up three goals in the final 18:45.
Princeton had the advantage in shots (30-16), ground balls (26-14) and draw controls (13-11). The Tigers were 12 for 17 on clears while the Bears cleared 50 percent at 7 for 14.
