Men?s Lights Hope To Keep Wood-Hammond Streak Alive In Saturday's Home Race

The Princeton men's lightweight crew lost a heartbreaker to Cornell last weekend for the Platt Cup, but it can get back to its winning ways when it returns to the Bud Smith Memorial Race Course on Lake Carnegie Saturday morning to take on Penn for the Wood-Hammond Cup.
Georgetown will also be competing this weekend, and the Hoyas will come in as the highest-ranked team in the latest poll. As of last week, Georgetown was ranked third, while Princeton was tied for fourth and Penn was ninth.
The Hoyas won the first matchup with Princeton, which came three weeks ago in the Fosburgh Cup competition. Georgetown won by three seconds, though Princeton picked up victories in the second varsity and freshman eight competitions.
Princeton leads the all-time Wood-Hammond Cup series 56-12, and the Tigers have won six consecutive varsity eight races against the Quakers. Last season, the Quakers pushed Princeton, but the Tigers kept their streak alive by winning in 5:43.5, while Penn took second in 5:48.4. Georgetown rounded out the field in 5:51.6. Princeton won all four races during the regatta.
Princeton will be looking to clear the bad taste from last weekend's narrow loss to Cornell. The Big Red won by .3 of a second to reclaim the Cup for the first time since 2007.
The Wood-Hammond Cup regatta will begin at 10, following the women's lightweight competition with Georgetown. The varsity eight race is scheduled for 11.
