Yergler Named to Academic All-America Team
June 07, 2012 | Men's Fencing
Princeton junior fencer Jonathan Yergler was named to the Capital One 2012 Academic All-America Men's At-Large Team in recognition for his performance on the fencing strip and in the classroom.
The highlight of the psychology major's season was his NCAA individual championship in the epee, marking the first NCAA individual title for a Princeton fencer since 2001. Yergler was one of 15 student-athletes named to the third team Academic All-America, while 15 more nationally were named second-team and 15 more first-team.
While Yergler was the only fencer among the three Academic All-America men's teams, he was vying for spots against student-athletes who compete in ice hockey, lacrosse, golf, wrestling, skiing, swimming, water polo and gymnastics. The award is nominated by and voted on members of the College Sports Information Directors Association.
