PRINCETON, N.J. (1/23/13) - The Princeton men's hockey team plays its first game back from exams on Sunday, Jan. 27 as it hosts Sacred Heart at 4 p.m.
EYE ON THE TIGERS
Princeton returns from a two-week exam period with a 6-8-4 overall record. The Tigers split with No. 16 Union and Rensselaer the last time out, falling 3-2 and winning 4-1 respectively. Princeton averages 2.50 goals per game, and allow 2.83 gpg. The Tigers have the best combined special teams in the nation. The seventh best power play converts 14 of 61 (23%) and the penalty kill 74 of 86 (86%).
Junior Andrew Calof is the league's leading scorer with 24 points on nine goals and 15 assists. Sophomore Tyler Maugeri has seven goals and 11 assists for 18 points. Junior Andrew Ammon chips in six goals and six assists for 12 points, while senior defender Eric Meland adds 10 assists. Fifteen other skaters have a point or more. Senior Mike Condon is 5-6-3 in goal. He has a .920 save percentage and a 2.44 goals against average. Junior Sean Bonar is 1-2-1 in goal with an .894 save percentage and a 3.30 GAA.
THE PRINCETON/SACRED HEART SERIES
Princeton is 2-0 in the series with Sacred Heart. The Tigers defeated the Pioneers 7-1 on Jan. 25, 2011 at Hobey Baker Rink. Princeton won a 4-3 game earlier this season in Bridgeport. Junior Andrew Ammon and senior Eric Meland lead the Tigers against Sacred Heart with five points. Junior Andrew Calof and sophomore Tyler Maugeri have three points apiece. Senior Mike Condon and junior Sean Bonar have both played against Sacred Heart. Condon made 23 saves and did not allow a goal in 34 minutes, replacing Bonar who made three saves on six shots.
SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
Sacred Heart is winless on the season, at 0-21-2. The Pioneers have lost the last 12 games, beginning with the Princeton game on Nov. 23. The team's most recent games were 5-2 and 6-3 losses to Air Force at home. Sacred Heart's power play rates at 10.2% (10 of 98), while the penalty kill is 72.7% (72 of 99).
Sophomore Brian Sheehan leads the team in scoring with 10 goals and nine assists for 19 points. Senior Eric Delong adds 17 points on seven goals and 10 assists. Sophomore Drew George is also in double digits with 10 points on three goals and seven assists. All but one skater on the squad has at least one point. Senior Steven Legatto is 0-12-1 in goal with an .877 save percentage and a 4.99 GAA. Sophomore Andrew Bodnarchuk is 0-7-1 with an .866 save percentage and a 5.02 GAA.
