Wrestling Tops F&M 31-7, Prepares For Home Trio, Alumni Weekend
February 02, 2013 | Wrestling
The win couldn't have come at a better time, as the Tigers will host Alumni Weekend coming up. Following a Friday night match against Sacred Heart, led by former Princeton assistant Andy Lausier, Princeton will host Ivy contests against both Brown (10 am) and Harvard (2:30 pm) on Saturday.
The Tigers trailed briefly in the match against an F&M team with strength in the lower weights. Princeton freshman Max Rogers got the match started with a 10-0 major decision at 125, but the Tigers would find themselves trailing 7-4 two matches later.
It wouldn't last long.
Senior co-captain Zach Bintliff did his job, turning the momentum against 22-win freshman Andrew Murano with a 6-3 victory. Sophomore Kyle Roddy followed up with a tough 6-5 win at 157, giving Princeton the lead for good.
Princeton used bonus points in the next three matches to open a comfortable margin. Sophomore Judd Ziegler scored a 9-1 major decision at 165, and junior Ryan Callahan returned from injury to score a 15-0 technical fall at 174.
Freshman Scott Gibbons leads the team in wins, and it didn't take long to improve on that total. He pinned Paul Alessandrini III in 55 seconds at 184 to build the lead to an insurmountable 25-7 total. Following a 7-0 win by Dan Santoro at 197, senior Charles Fox picked up his second win of the season with a 6-4 overtime victory.
