Match notes: William & Mary had won the last two in the series, in 1999 and 2002, the teams' only meetings since 1951 ... Princeton has started the dual-match season with a win for the second time in as many seasons under head coach Billy Pate ... all three freshmen - Alex Day, Josh Yablon and Thomas Colautti - played within the top four singles spots in their first dual match as Tigers ... William & Mary's previous four defeats this season came against Notre Dame, Northwestern, Penn State and St. John's ... Princeton fell behind 2-0 after losing the doubles point and at second singles before winning the next four singles matches to be decided. |

Coach Billy Pate on the match: "I'm very pleased to come away with a win on the road in the first match of the season. It's a bit difficult to know what to expect coming off exams and playing a good team at their place. We handled it well and the energy was outstanding. The quicker format was certainly different and fast-paced in the doubles. I felt we simply didn't play the big points as well there. However, I would say we won the vast majority of no-ad points in singles and that was likely the difference. It was great to see our freshmen playing in the middle of the lineup and doing well. Tom (Colautti) got off to a slow start and his opponent played lights out. But Alex (Day) and Josh (Yablon) really had good wins and it was great to see Josh clinch in his first dual match. We'll look to build on this performance and get ready for Old Dominion on Saturday." |
