Women's Swim/Dive Earns Over $5,000 In Annual Collegians Find the Cure 5K
October 01, 2014 | Women's Swimming and Diving
The start of October signals the official beginning of preseason for the Princeton women's swimming and diving team, which will battle for the program's 22nd Ivy League championship next February. It isn't the team's lone battle, though; the Tigers raised more than $5,000 last month — a record for the program — in the battle against breast cancer during the seventh annual Collegians Find the Cure 5K.
The 5K, which was held Sept. 20 on the Princeton campus, brought out several Princeton teams, including the lightweight rowers, men's volleyball, women's lacrosse, softball, cheerleading, women's squash, men's swimming, and women's water polo teams.
"The Princeton Women's Swimming and Diving Team is so proud of the success of the seventh Annual Collegians Find the Cure 5K," said Mallory Remick, one of the event coordinators. "This year, we dedicated the run to fellow PUCSDT alum Susan Moody '94, who was recently diagnosed and is currently fighting breast cancer. The fantastic turnout for the event demonstrates the close-knit relationship between the Princeton community and the University.
"My teammates and I are so lucky to be a part of PUCSDT, a family both in and out of the water," she added. "We are humbled by the outpouring of support from the Princeton community, students, athletes, alumni, parents, and friends. We are very dedicated to this cause, and look forward to continuing our support for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation."
Head coach Susan Teeter was thrilled with both the effort and success that went into this year's event.
"I am so proud of our women for putting this together and running a great 5k for the seventh year," Teeter said. "I have always believed that the tradition we continue to build must be successful both in and out of the pool. This is another indication that our women continue to do the right thing."
