WEEK IN REVIEW
Due to a limited number of available players, the Princeton University sprint football team forfeited last week's game against Army to fall to 0-4 on the season. This Saturday's showdown against Mansfield will be the Tigers' first game since suffering a 55-0 setback against Cornell on Oct. 10.
Chad Cowden led the Princeton attack against the Big Red, completing 17-of-48 passes for 145 yards and four interceptions. Ahmed Musse made four receptions for 60 yards while Tyler Kaye caught five passes for 43 yards.
Paving the way for a Tiger defense that held Cornell to one first down, 35 yards and seven points in the second half, A.J. Sibley finished with a team-high nine tackles, including 2.5 for a loss. Nick Barnett and Dan Paolillo combined for 15 stops.
ALL-TIME SERIES
Mansfield has won all six games against Princeton dating back to 2008. Emerging victorious in the inaugural meeting by a score of 28-3, the Mountaineers earned a 26-14 decision in 2009.
Winning another close game in 2010, 10-6, Mansfield secured a 24-2 win in 2011. Upending the Tigers in last year's season opener (24-14), the Mountaineers also won in 2012, 23-16.
LAST MEETING
Princeton dropped last season's match-up at Mansfield, 24-14. On top 17-6 at the intermission, the Mountaineers tacked on a touchdown in the third quarter en route to a 10-point margin of victory.
Holding a 308-261 edge in total offense, Mansfield did most of its damage on the ground, racking up 231 rushing yards. Chad Cowden led the Princeton offense, completing 11-of-29 pass attempts for 239 yards and two touchdowns. Chris McCord made three receptions for 89 yards and a score. Bob Dougherty led the Tigers with 8.5 tackles (8 solo), while Kyle Douglas made six stops, including two for a loss.
SCOUTING MANSFIELD
Coming off a 36-15 loss to Franklin Pierce, Mansfield enters Saturday's game with a 0-5 mark. The Mountaineers opened the year with a 14-13 setback against Penn before dropping meetings against Navy (26-14), Post (21-18) and Army (48-32).
Against Franklin Pierce, quarterback Mike Maniscalco, who threw for 357 yards and two touchdowns. In the week prior against Army, the senior racked up 380 yards through the air with five scores, becoming the first Mansfield player to pass for more than 1,000 yards in a season. Completing 98-of-196 pass attempts for 1,281 yards and 11 touchdowns, he currently ranks second in the CSFL in passing yards per game (256.2).
Mansfield also has several receivers ranked among the league's leaders in 2014. Second in the CSFL in receptions (31), yards per game (91.2) and touchdowns (5), Kurt Logan has recorded consecutive 150-yard games. Joe Bucek is third in the conference in receptions (25) and sixth in yards per game.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Mountaineers are second in the CSFL in pass defense (131.4 ypg), surrendering a league-low four TDs. Against the run, Mansfield is allowing 222.8 yards per game. Linebacker Spencer Underdown ranks fifth in the conference in tackles (37) while Anthony Mazzone is eighth with 35 stops. Defensive back Kyle Post has made a CSFL-high three interceptions.
