1931 | Sprint football competes in its first varsity season under head coach Pop Foster. |
1932 | Tigers record their first-ever victory with a 33-7 win over the University of Pennsylvania. |
1934 | Head coach Herb Treat guides Princeton to its first winning season. Tigers close out the year with a 5-1 overall record. |
1936 | Harry Mahnken named the program's fifth head coach. From 1936-42 he amassed a 29-7 record, leading the Orange and Black to six league titles. |
1937 | Princeton captures its first of nine Eastern Lightweight Football League championships with a 5-0-1 mark. |
1938 | Tigers repeat as conference champions after turning in their first undefeated season (6-0). |
1942 | Princeton wins its sixth and final ELFL title under Harry Mahnken, outscoring opponents 148-0 en route to a 4-0 record. |
1943 | Lightweight football suspended. Competition would resume in 1946. |
1947 | Richard Vaughan named the program's head coach. In 21 seasons at the helm, he would go on to record 56 victories - the most in school history. |
1954 | Tigers capture their first league crown in 12 years, going 6-0. |
1975 | After a 21-year title drought, head coach Dan White leads Princeton to a 5-1 overall mark and eighth conference championship. |
1989 | The Orange and Black claim a ninth ELFL crown. Under the direction of head coach Tom Murray, Princeton posts a 4-2-1 overall record. |
2005 | Princeton snaps a 40-game losing streak with a 19-7 victory over VMI. |
The 150th anniversary of the first intercollegiate athletic event in Princeton University history will be Nov. 22, 2014, which will be 150 years to the day that Princeton defeated Williams 27-16 in a baseball game. As part of the 150th celebration, Princeton will be commemorating the history of each of its 38 varsity teams, in reverse order of the time they became varsity programs.
