PRINCETON, N.J. (11/20/14) - The Princeton men's hockey makes its annual trip to the North Country this weekend as the Tigers face St. Lawrence and Clarkson, Nov. 21 & 22. Both games are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
EYE ON THE TIGERS
Princeton looks to turn around a three-game losing skid as it heads to the North Country to face St. Lawrence and Clarkson this weekend. The Tigers will face two teams that have nearly double the ice time, as the non-Ivy teams began play on Oct. 10, one day before Princeton was allowed to begin practice. Princeton is 1-4-1 overall and 1-3 in the ECAC, its lone win a 2-1 game over Cornell in the home opener. The Tigers are scoring 1.33 goals per game and allow 3.86 gpg. The power play is 4 of 28 (14.3%) and the penalty kill is 29 of 37 (78.4%).
Sophomore Ben Foster and senior defender Aaron Ave have three points apiece with Ave scoring twice and assisting on one goal, while Foster has two helpers and one goal. Senior Aaron Kesselman adds two assists as well. Five other players have scored a goal. Sophomore Colton Phinney started in the first five games and went 1-3-1 with a .912 save percentage and a 3.51 goals against average. Freshman Ben Halford started in the last game, at Union, and is 0-1 with an .865 save percentage and a 4.69 GAA.
THE PRINCETON/ST. LAWRENCE SERIES
St. Lawrence leads Princeton, 66-21-10 in the all-time series that began in 1947-48. The Saints are unbeaten in the last eight games, 7-0-1 with Princeton's last win coming on March 11, 2011. Tyler Maugeri has three points in five games against St. Lawrence, while Jonathan Liau has two helpers. Colton Phinney is 0-2, making 43 saves and allowing nine.
SCOUTING THE SAINTS
St. Lawrence is 7-4-1 overall and 3-1 in the league. Like Princeton the Saints defeated Cornell and lost to Colgate, those games happening last weekend downstate. St. Lawrence is receiving votes in both national polls this week. The Saints average 3.58 gpg and allow 2.25 gpg. The power play converts 22.7 percent while the penalty kill rates at 85.7 percent.

THE PRINCETON/CLARKSON SERIES
Clarkson boasts a 78-29-5 lead in the series that began in 1927-28.
