PRINCETON, N.J. (12/24/14) - The college men's hockey season resumes this weekend as ECAC travel partners Princeton and Quinnipiac play a home-and-home series. ESPNU will televise the second game on Sunday, Dec. 29 live from Hobey Baker Rink with John Buccigross and Andrew Raycroft calling the game. Game 1 will take place at TD Bank Sports Center on Saturday, Dec. 28. Both games are at 4 p.m.
EYE ON THE TIGERS
Princeton returns from the holiday break with a 2-10-1 record and is 1-7 in the ECAC, it's win coming in the home opener versus Cornell. The Tigers most recently dropped a 5-0 game at No. 3 Minnesota State on Dec. 12 before it's second game was cancelled by the Mavericks due to the flu. Junior Kyle Rankin is the leader in points per game with one goal and a team-high four assists in nine games, missing four due to an injury. Senior Aaron Kesselman and sophomore Ben Foster add two goals and three points apiece. Junior Jonathan Liau has scored the most goals, three, and adds one assist for four points. Senior defender Aaron Ave chips in four points as well with two goals and two assists. Sophomore Colton Phinney has started in goal for 12 of the team's 13 games and has a .913 save percentage and a 3.48 goals against average.
THE PRINCETON/QUINNIPIAC SERIES
Quinnipiac holds a one-game edge, 10-9-1 in the series with travel partner Princeton. Last year the team's split with Tigers earning an upset on the road over the then-ranked No. 4 team, 4-3. Quinnipiac took a 3-0 game at Hobey Baker Rink the night before.
SCOUTING THE BOBCATS
Quinnipiac is ranked No. 14 and 15 in the latest national polls. The Bobcats are 10-5-1 overall and 6-2 in the conference to rank second in the standings behind Harvard. Harvard and Clarkson are the two league losses. Quinnipiac has had plenty of rest with its last games against Dartmouth and Harvard, Dec. 5 & 6. Sophomore Sam Anas is the team's leading scorer with 10 goals and nine assists for 19 points. Freshman Landon Smith adds seven goals and nine assists for 16 points. Draft picks Devon Toews (NYI) and Matthew Peca (TBL) have 11 assists and one goal apiece. Junior Travis St. Denis is also in double figures with 11 points on seven goals and four assists. Junior Michael Garteig is 9-5 between the pipes with a .904 save percentage and a 2.26 goals against average. Freshman Sean Lawrence has seen action in three games and is 1-0-1 with an .881 save percentage and a 2.19 GAA.
