PRINCETON, N.J. (2/24/14) - The Princeton women's lacrosse team hosts Rutgers in the home opener on Wednesday, Feb. 26 at Sherrerd Field at Class of 1952 Stadium. Game time is at 6 p.m.
EYE ON THE TIGERSPrinceton opened the season on Saturday at No. 6 Loyola, falling 15-10 to the Greyhounds. The Tigers are No. 18 in this week's Inside Lacrosse poll and 19th in the IWLCA poll. Junior Erin McMunn had a four-point game at Loyola with one goal and three assists. Senior Sarah Lloyd and freshman Anna Doherty both recorded hat tricks. Junior Erin Slifer had one goal and one assist and led the team at the circle with six draw controls. Senior defender Colleen Smith had four caused turnovers and four ground balls. Senior Caroline Franke started in goal and made two saves on 13 shots in the first 42 minutes. Freshman Ellie DeGarmo played the final 18 minutes and allowed four goals on four shots.
THE SERIES
Princeton leads the all-time series with Rutgers 13-5-1 since it began in 1975. The teams have played each other every season since 2007. Rutgers has won the last two meetings and three of the last four.
SCOUTING THE SCARLET KNIGHTS
Rutgers is 2-0 on the season after opening on Feb. 18. The team has played both games at home, defeating Manhattan 6-3 and Fairfield 6-5. The Scarlet Knights have dominated the circle in both games winning 15 of 24, but it has been by committee as no one player has more than three draw controls. Megan Clements leads the team in scoring with four points on two goals and two assists. Katrina Martinelli has scored the most goals with three, all of which were scored on free-position attempts, as she's converted 3 for 3. Kim Kolodny and Jenny Vlahos have each scored twice. Amanda Currell started in the last game and has played three halves. She has a .714 save percentage and a 4.00 GAA making 15 saves on 21 shots. Candice Dandige played the first half of the first game, allowing two on four shots.
